Integration Pilots

The City of Neuss welcomes the voluntary commitment of migrants as integration pilots.

Who are the integration pilots and what are their tasks?

The integration pilots of the City of Neuss have been in existence since 2009 and were established by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the “KOMM-IN NRW – Innovations in Communal Integration Work” programme.
The main tasks of the integration pilots are to advise, accompany and support migrants in the City of Neuss.

The integration pilots offer migrants support in coping with their daily tasks. They are people with a migration background and personal experience of the field of integration. They have good knowledge of German and at least one other language. They would like to support the integration process and build bridges between migrants and public authorities or institutions in order to promote good cooperation.

As a language and cultural mediator, you will make a significant contribution to the successful integration of immigrants. You will support new immigrants in orienting themselves in their new life situation and finding their way around. This can involve linguistic support in dealing with the public authorities or other institutions. Clarifying conversations and orientation aids regarding social life and public structures in Neuss are also part of this.

As part of your voluntary work as an integration pilot, you will deal with the topics of health, education, upbringing, work, profession and social affairs.

In ongoing training courses, integration pilots are taught about the legal framework, intercultural skills and communication, as well as their role as language and culture mediators. They are also accompanied by supervision.
The integration pilots are available for assignments at public authorities, consulting, health and educational institutions. They are subject to an obligation to maintain confidentiality.

Who can make use of the assistance?

Employees of the above-mentioned institutions or authorities, as well as migrants, can take advantage of this offer.

The project is offered by the pilots on a voluntary basis and free of charge.

Who are the appropriate people to contact?

The Integration Office of the City of Neuss is responsible for carrying out the tasks in the area of project funding and the organisation of training courses, as well as the coordination of the pilots.
